Have you ever met somebody who simply seems to be lucky? Everything goes their way, doors open, and good things happen. And here’s what I’ve learned: most of that “luck” we admire isn’t just random. It’s earned.
For us to increase our “luck“, we need to take bold actions consistently. As quoted by Gay Hendrick from his book Conscious Luck, one of the secrets to intentionally changing your future, he writes, “To successfully capture the winds of fortune, you have to raise your sail by acting boldly and keep raising it again and again.”
It reminded me that opportunity doesn’t just land in our laps; it meets us at the intersection of courage and effort. If we want more magic in our lives, we’ve got to show up for it. That means moving forward, even when we’re unsure. Each time that we go out and try something new, fight for what we desire, or push past our comfort zones, we’re planting seeds of potential possibility. We’re providing possibilities that something incredible but unexpected will happen.
Our boldness creates a ripple. It makes us bold, sets us out of our comfort zone, and exposes us to the right people and opportunities. As we’re doing with boldness over and over again, we begin to gain momentum. That momentum opens the door. That momentum makes us lucky.
Begin small. Bravery is a learned skill, and the more we attempt it, the more courageous we become. Do that thing we have been wanting to do but are afraid of. The new skill set we learned gives us a new vision and new connections.
Remember, Luck is not a bolt of lightning. It is a breeze. It’s perpetually out there, but we need to raise our sails to experience its force. So be bold, keep that steady progress in the direction of our desires, and let’s be amazed at what begins to appear in our lives.
