Kaizen Thought: Discipline is what keeps the engine running when the desire is low, and the goal still matters.
Motivation is our inner engine, it is our desire to actually do something.
If we are not motivated, we cannot get up and move—plain and simple. It’s the reason why we get up even when staying down seems to be easier. It’s the quiet voice in us that says, “There’s more in you.”
It’s a reminder of why we started, or who we’re doing it for.
Without motivation, we will be aimless. We can have the to-do list practically listed for us, the best tools, and the perfect environment but if our passion and desire isn’t there, we won’t move. We’ll only sit in thought, paralyzed waiting for something to happen to us instead of because of us.
But here’s the thing…motivation has a shelf life, it burns hot and fast if we don’t fuel it. This is where motivation and discipline cross.
Discipline is what keeps the engine running when the desire is low, and the goal still matters. How do we move forward with discipline and motivation hand-in-hand?
- Stay connected to your WHY. When the reason is strong, quitting is not an option.
- Break goals into smaller daily wins. We celebrate small wins, they are the fuel for the fire.
- Enrich your mind daily—books, mentors, inspiration.
- Surround yourself with WINNERS—they should drive us to WIN not drain us.
- Feel the outcome in our bones. Envision it. See it!
And never forget that every time we push past comfort, we’re adding fuel to our engine. In the end, motivation is the spark, but we have to be the one who keeps stoking the flame.
