The major reason people remain unsuccessful is that they believe they are unlucky or lucky and that whatever happens to them is by chance. This attitude deceives the brain into thinking that the individual truly has no control over their life, which in turn creates an overdependence on excuses.
Successful people know that their current situation results from their past actions or inaction. They take ownership of their decisions and improve themselves.
Let me give an example of this. You are late for work because of traffic. An average person will make an excuse because there is nothing they can do about traffic, and that’s the end of the matter. A person with an internal locus of control will ask themselves, “What could I have done better to come to work much earlier?”
They look into themselves and see what habits they must change to improve.“Oh, I don’t wake up early enough, so I could not beat the traffic. I don’t wake up early enough because I go to bed late. I go to bed late because I spend too much time on social media at night instead of sleeping”. With this mindset, they make small adjustments, eventually beating the traffic and coming early to work. Control is one of the most important among all the habits that differentiate successful people from the rest. Successful people have an internal locus of control, while the rest have an external locus of control. To put it bluntly, people with an internal locus of control make things happen, while people with an external locus of control have things happen to them.
