We all have this burning desire within us—a desire to change a lot of things. We want to change other people, the system, and the world. The problem is, we do not have the reach or the ability to do so. Some things are also just not for us to change.
But do you know what we have? We have the power to change ourselves and start that change whenever we want to. We have full control of ourselves. We make the decisions for ourselves. We have the freedom to take action, we just have to actively decide to change NOW and never be a victim of anything. Remember: changing always starts with choosing.
We cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the weather just because it’s inconvenient for us. Sir Jim Rohn notes we don’t even have to. All we’ve got to change is what’s inside. “You must learn to control YOU…the one whose response to the difficulties of life really counts.” If we change ourselves, everything else will change for us.
We hear this reminder all the time but let this BlessUP reiterate our BATO (Be Accountable and Take Ownership) core value once more:
Always GO within before you go without. Whether it’s for root causes, impediments, bottlenecks, or whatever you lack, own the situation and find a path to produce a better outcome in the future. Never focus on your limitations. True excellence is achieved WITHIN the box. You can succeed with what you have if you choose to, so let being accountable and taking ownership be your choice every time.
Being accountable and taking ownership is simple by definition. If we truly care about something, we will do whatever it takes to win the situation at hand even if it’s uncomfortable, even if it’s not our job, even if nobody asked us to, and even if it requires sacrifice. We will find the means to win and never be a victim of anything.
When we take responsibility and strive for continuous improvement within, not only do we change our own lives for the better, but we inspire others to take the same path, creating a ripple effect that ultimately permeates the world around us.
